Some sad news has just reached me, and it has come as a shock; Chris Cheshire, long time Exile, lost his fight with stomach cancer on 28 March 2000. He had kept his illness secret from the majority of his teammates. With hindsight the reason he was unable to play all last season is now clear, and it wasn't that he was stacked out with work (Chris was a busy freelance Cameraman).
Chris's Cricket was always good humoured. He would be first to admit that his technique was limited but on his day he could be devastating with his slow looping deliveries. The last time I remember playing with him he took five wickets against Victor Trumper XI. He also took some spectacular catches that occasionaly seemed to surprise him as much as his teammates. I find it impossible to remember him without a wide smile on his face, under a summer sky, enjoying his Cricket to the full. The Exiles are diminished by his passing.
